Art Fair Prize GivingTHE HOVE CIVIC ART PRIZE, GIVEN AT THE BRIGHTON ART FAIR 2007, ASKED FOR A PIECE OF ARTWORK COMPRISING OF ANY ARCHITECTURAL REFERENCE, THEME OR DETAIL IN THE URBAN ENVIRONMENT
The aim of the prize was to increase the public's appreciation of these factors in their everyday surroundings
and to encourage people to look at architecture in different ways.
WINNER - CHRISTOPHER NOULTON The diptych shows views of a house built in the 30's. The judges felt that the detail, execution and clean lines of this acrylic on canvas show that looking from below gives a different aspect. The balconies have a beauty not always associated with this era of architecture and the two image division of the picture adds extra interest. Overall it encourages one to 'look up' and not always at the pavement while going about our busy lives. The piece is titled "milk round" as the artist used to be a milk boy and the building was on his early morning round!
